Second wolf killing in area in just over a month

HALFWAY, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Oregon State Police Fish & Wildlife Division is asking for the public's help with identifying the person (s) responsible for killing a wolf in the Pine Creek Wildlife Management Unit on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, on or about last Thursday.

The incident occurred in the Grouse Flat area off of Forest Service Road 3990, northeast of Halfway.

An elk hunter found the deceased wolf and reported the incident to OSP.  The hunter then led OSP and ODFW personnel to the location of the deceased wolf.  The investigation determined the wolf was shot with a firearm.

ODFW stated the wolf was a non-breeding sub-adult female wolf about 1 1/2 years of age.  The wolf was in the Pine Creek Pack territory.

Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to contact OSP Sergeant Isaac Cyr through the Turn in Poachers (TIP) hotline at 1-800-452-7888 or OSP (mobile).

It was the second wolf killing reported in just over a month in Baker County. A reward of more than $6,100 is being offered in regards to a late-September poaching incident, also on the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, in that case involving the breeding male of the Cornucopia Pack.
