REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – Redmond police early Saturday evening said a missing 67-year-old Redmond man had been found safe in Bend. Earlier, they sought the public's help finding the man, noting a medical condition which prompted concern for his safety.

Ronald Norman Olson was last seen around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, walking away from his home, located near Southwest 23rd Street and Pumice Avenue, Lt. Jesse Petersen said.

“Mr. Olson’s disappearance isn’t suspicious,” Petersen said in an initial news release. “However, he suffers from an underlying medical condition which causes concern for his safety.”

Around 6 p.m., police posted a brief update on the department's Facebook page: "

"Mr. Olson has been safely located in Bend, Oregon. Thank You for helping us find him." they said.

Around 5:30 p.m., a concerned community member contacted Deschutes County dispatchers, saying they had seen the Redmond police Facebook post and knew Olson was at a Bend hotel, Petersen said.

Bend police contacted Olson at the hotel "and verified he was safe and in good health," he added.

"The Redmond Police Department would like to thank our community, especially the person who reported Mr. Olson’s whereabouts, for helping us locate him," the lieutenant said.

"RPD is grateful for the positive relationships we have with our community and local police departments, as these relationships were imperative in our ability to locate a missing endangered person. Strong community relationships will assist us in meeting our vision of being the safest community in Oregon," he added.
