Bend man arrested after Hwy. 20 DUII head-on crash
Other driver, a Salem man, seriously injured; highway shut for 2 hours

TUMALO, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A 65-year-old Bend man was arrested on drunk and reckless driving and assault charges after a head-on crash on Highway 20 west of Tumalo Monday afternoon that seriously injured the other driver, Oregon State Police said.
Troopers said Anthony Amadio was driving a Ford F-250 pickup heading west on the highway at Couch Market Road around 3:35 p.m. when he crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a Chevy Express van driven by John Tobin, 53, of Salem.
Tobin sustained serious injuries and had to be cut out of the van, OSP said. Bend Fire and Rescue ambulance took Tobin to St. Charles Bend, where he was in serious condition Tuesday, according to a representative
Troopers said Amadio admitted to consuming alcohol and was arrested at the scene on the DUII charge. He was held in the Deschutes County Jail on an initial bail of $65,000, charged with DUII-alcohol, second-degree assault, recklessly endangering and reckless driving.
Circuit Judge Bethany Flint raised Amadio's bail amount to $100,000 on Tuesday at his first court appearance and scheduled a Dec. 24 arraignment on an expected formal indictment.
The crash shut down Highway 20 in the area for about two hours, OSP said. Deschutes County sheriff's deputies and ODOT also assisted at the scene.
Online court records show Amadio was arrested in September 2013 on misdemeanor DUII, reckless driving and reckless endangering charges. He pleaded guilty in April 2015 to two of the charges and his sentence included two years of monitoring and an alcohol treatment program, which he completed later that year.
