Police: Buck Deer Unlawful Killed with a Spear, Search for Suspect Underway

MONROE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division is asking for the public's help to identify whoever unlawfully killed a buck deer with a spear near Monroe in Benton County.

Troopers responded to a report of a dead buck deer on private property near Cox Lane and Foster Road outside Monroe on Sept. 9, 2026. Upon arrival, officers found the deer with a spear lodged in its body, left to waste.

Anyone with information about the incident or suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact the Turn In Poachers hotline at 1-800-452-7888 or call *OSP (*677) from a mobile phone. Tips can be submitted anonymously by referencing case number SP26-295930. Information can also be emailed to TIP@osp.oregon.gov, which is monitored Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Turn In Poachers program is a joint effort involving the Oregon State Police, Oregon Hunters Association, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Oregon Wildlife Coalition, Oregon Outfitters and Guides Association and the Oregon State Marine Board. The initiative offers incentives for information that leads to an arrest or citation for unlawful take, possession or waste of wildlife and habitat destruction.

Incentives include preference point rewards, such as four points for deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, bear and cougar, as well as five points for bighorn sheep, Rocky Mountain goat, moose and wolves. Cash rewards are also available through participating organizations, including up to $1,000 from the Oregon Hunters Association for information involving deer, elk or antelope and up to $2,000 for bighorn sheep, mountain goat or moose.
