APrineville man charged with numerous crimes against deer wassentenced late Monday afternoon to just over a year in jail.

Ronald Livermore, 60,s a self-proclaimed vegetarian, was chargeed with fatally shooting and wasting deer using an unregistered silencer.

Back in April, Livermore pleaded not guilty to nearly two-dozen charges against him, including one charge of attempted sexual abuse of an animal.

Afew weeks ago, Livermore agreed to a plea deal, which in part dismissed the sexual abuse charge, in return for guilty pleas to nine of the 22 charges.

On Monday,he was sentenced on those charges, which included four felony counts of taking game mammals, four counts of wasting wildlife and one felony count of having an unlawful weapon.

Livermore will pay $6,000 in restitution to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for eight dead deer and undergo a mental evaluation.

In court, Livermore expressed remorse for his actions.

Wildlife agents said Livermore used a sawed off .22-rifle with a homemade silencer on it. He called it his “survivor weapon,” and”it was very silent,”Oregon State Police Trooper Amos Madison said in Aprik.

Madison said Livermoreused the gun to shoot deer in the head off Forest Service roads north of Prineville. Most were pregnant, but he didn’t shoot the deer to eat the meat.

“He admitted he doesn’t eat meat,” Madison said,”and he just liked to shoot animals. He’d drive around with a spotlight and when he’d see eyes, he’d shoot and drive on. “

Madison arrested Livermore atPioneer Memorial Hospital, where he was working as a janitor.
