Bend Man Arrested in Redmond Gun Incident
A 28-year-old Bend man was arrested at a northwest Redmond park Monday night, accused of brandishing a handgun at a nearby home a short time earlier, police said.
Officers were dispatched shortly after 9 p.m. to a report of a man who had walked up to a house with a gun in his hand in the area of Northwest Kingwood Avenue and Eighth Street, said Sgt. Curtis Chambers.
Initial reports indicated a confrontation may have occurred in front of the home, he said, although there was no report of the handgun being fired.
Officers contacted a male at Stack Park, less than a block away from the reported incident, Chambers said. He matched the description of the suspect in the case.
Steven Richard West, 28, was arrested and the handgun reported to have been brandished was found under the picnic table he had been sitting on, Chambers said.
West was taken to the Deschutes County Jail in Bend and lodged on charges of felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, menacing and second-degree criminal trespass.
He remained held Tuesday morning on $15,500 bail.
