‘Meet Your Maker’: Bend Market, CSA Fair

Central Oregon Locavore and Whole Foods Market held a “Meet Your Maker Market and CSA Fair” in the Bend Whole Foods parking lot Saturday afternoon.

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, that’s where locals buy a share from a farmer and in return receive produce throughout the farming season.

Consumers and visitors were able to meet farmers and vendors from a variety of places including

Consumers were also given a chance to sign up for a CSA share before they sell out.

“Having this market at Whole Foods, there are people here who are interested in natural healthy food that maybe didn’t know about these farmers and didn’t know about Central Oregon Locavore and gives people the opportunity to meet their farmer,” said Nicolle Timm, owner of Central Oregon Locavore.

Timm says the local movement is booming here and she thinks it will continue to grow.

She says more people are realizing how important it is to support local food for our economy, for sustainability of our planet and because the food is healthier and fresher.

Organizers also said knowing your farmer and producer is the safest route.
