DCSO Posse Holds Trail Course Challenge

KTVZ

Members of the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Posse Team were out at the Sheriff’s Posse Grounds on Saturday, doing one of their four fund-raisers held each year.

This particular event was testing the communication between the riders and their horse.

The horses and riders went through courses to help desensitize the horses to going through situations like crossing a bridge, through water and logs — terrain that the posse members often go through when they are called out.

“Our main purpose is to support the sheriff’s office and giving back to the community as volunteers,” said Sandra Tow, posse team member. “We also have several posse members that are members of the Search and Rescue resource course team — they will be qualifying today as well.”

The Search and Rescue team has to qualify their horses once a year.

If you didn’t get a chance to attend Saturday’s fundraiser, they are holding another soon. It’s on May 19th at Skull Hollow on Lone Pine Road. That fund-raiser is called Jacks or Better,, and is like a poker run for horses.
