Hundreds of people visited the Ray?s Food Place parking lot in Bend on Saturday to show their support for the Special Olympics.

The High Desert Special Olympics collected glass bottles and cans from 8 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon for their Mountain of Cans fundraiser. All of the proceeds go toward the High Desert Special Olympics program.

?The whole High Desert program supports over 300 athletes in their summer, fall and winter programs,? said Angela Schmidling, communications manager for Special Olympics on the High Desert. ?It goes to pay for the equipment, practice times for competition and traveling to competitions.?

Other members of the High Desert Special Olympics team held their Mountain of Cans fundraiser at markets in Redmond, Prineville and Sisters on Saturday.
