Rodeo Parade, Art Show Add to Sisters Fun
There are many elements of rodeo week in Sisters that aren’t in the rodeo grounds, and two of those on Saturday were the always-popular rodeo parade and the Art in the Park show.
A portion of Highway 20 was closed Saturday morning as hundreds lined the street to watch the parade pass by and cheer the participants.
Rodeo queens and princesses galloped down the street on their horses, while different modes of transportation were featured, including classic cars and decorated floats.
“Sunny” has lived in sisters and attended the parade for the past 24 years. She says there’s a lot of different reasons to enjoy the festivities.
“The horses, the people, and all the children and the dogs,” she said. “It supports the community — and I know just about everybody in it.”
The final rodeo performance begins at 1 p.m. Sunday, featuring roping, riding, steer wrestling and a whole lot more.
After the parade, parade-goers could visit nearby Creekside Park for some Art in the Park. the 10th annual event attracted hundreds of visitors on Saturday.
The vendors were at sold-out capacity for the event, which is free to the public. The arts and crafts are all handmade, from metal sculpture to photography, wood art, soaps, baskets and watercolors.
There’s also a special silent auction , the proceeds of which go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for a local wish for a seriously ill person.
Last year, $1,500 was collected, according to the coordinator, Richard Esterman. And over the course of a decade, almost $10,000 has been raised.
“I started this (show) — this one’s 10 years old,” he said. “My oldest is 12 years old, and I started to bring the fine arts and crafts and creativity to town. And I search all over to find the different exhibitors, so they aren’t just local, they are from all over.”
Esterman said they included artists from Montana, Idaho and as far away as Georgia. The show runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Creekside Park.
