Charges Filed in $2.1 Million Ore. Tax Fraud
Formal charges have been filed against an Oregon woman accused of fraudulently receiving a $2.1 million state tax refund.
The felony charges filed Wednesday against Krystle Reyes in Marion County include tax evasion, computer crime, methamphetamine possession and five counts of aggravated theft.
Authorities allege the 25-year-old Salem woman used Turbo Tax to file a bogus state income tax return in which she reported earnings of $3 million and claimed a $2.1 million refund.
Turbo Tax issued Reyes a debit card with the full refund amount, and she spent more than $150,000 before reporting the card lost or stolen, an action that eventually led to her arrest.
Reyes was booked into jail last week and released. Her arraignment is set for July 5. She could not be located for comment.
