Board Hires New Univ. of Oregon President
The State Board of Higher Education has formally hired Michael Gottfredson to lead the University of Oregon.
Gottfredson was appointed president of Oregon’s highest-profile university on Friday. He has been a senior administrator at the University of California, Irvine for 12 years.
He was the only finalist to replace Richard Lariviere, who was fired last year after the board said he wasn’t a team player.
Gottfredson starts Aug. 1, but officials say he will begin transitioning into the job next month.
Besides his work in administration, he has been a professor of criminology, law and society. He graduated from the University of California at Davis and got his advanced degrees from the State University of New York at Albany.
