Still no sign of missing hiker near Mt. Jefferson
The search for a 52-year-old Portland man near Mt. Jefferson will resume Tuesday morning, five days after Ronald Ohm went missing.
Marion County sheriff deputies say Ohm was hiking in the area with two other people last Thursday when he stopped to take a few pictures.
While Ohm was taking pictures, his hiking companions continued on to Russell Lake to set up camp. When he didn’t return, they called 911 to report him missing.
On Monday, a Blackhawk helicopter and Civil Air Patrol plane flew over the search area, trying to find any sign of Ohm.
On the ground, search and rescue teams continued to look for clues as to where he might have gone.
“We are getting down into off trail areas, down in cracks, crevasses, canyons and nooks and crannies,” said Don Thompson with the Marion County Sheriffs Office.
Six counties, including Deschutes County, have sent resources to help find Ohms. He is described as an experienced hiker who has frequented the area.
“We have about 50 people there right now,” said Thompson. “We are using everything from horses, SUVs, quads and on foot.”
By nightfall Monday, concern grew as to whether or not Ohm had enough food and water to keep himself alive.
“We know he had packed supplies and medication that would last him roughly four days, which would have ended last night, ” said Thompson. “So theoretically, he would be running down on supplies about now.”
Anyone with information or who may have been in the area Thursday or Friday and saw Ronald Ohm is asked to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office at 503-932-8002.
