Rope-walking daredevils show off at Smith Rock
Hundreds of feet above the ground, many people might see something new at Smith Rock Park this weekend. Several people were seen walking on ropes suspended high over the canyon.
People in the park watching said it’s called “slacklining.” It’s apparently become very popular, with slacklining videos even going viral online as people balance on just a few inches of rope.
The men who were walking across the rope were secured with another rope,, since it was a risky spot, far above the ground.
Many tourists visiting the area said they were shocked to see it.
“We thought we would bring the kids up here today and check it out — little did we know we would see these characters climbing across the mountain top on a rope,” said Bob Nordberg from Seattle. “I like having my feet planted firmly on the ground, thank you very much.”
It’s been an entertaining sight for people who live near the famed climbing spot. NewsChannel 21 have received several phone calls from residents who have seen the men walking throughout the week.
