Redmond wood piles burn, send up tall flames
Fire erupted early Friday in several piles of wood chips and brush in southwest Redmond, sending up flames visible for miles before it could be extinguished, officials said.
The call came in just after midnight at the Bar Seven A Trucking wood yard at 1920 SW Sixth St., said Fire Marshal Tracy Cooper.
Crews arrived to find about four piles of wood material burning in close proximity to each other, Cooper said. They were a mix of wood chips and brush that had not been chipped yet.
Cooper said firefighters applied water to the burning piles and asked that workers use a loader to begin pulling the piles apart.
No structures were threatened, and there were no injuries, Cooper said early Friday.
Bend firefighters were called in on mutual aid to deal with other calls if necessary.
