Pioneer Memorial Hospital Auxiliary scholarships
The Pioneer Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s scholarship awards for students pursuing a medical education.
The scholarships — which cover students’ tuition, books and direct fees for one academic year — are given to residents of Crook County who are enrolled in a Central Oregon school or in a medical program at a school of higher education.
This year’s recipients include:
Melissa Ashley, who graduated from Crook County High School with a 3.48 GPA and is now a student at Central Oregon Community College, where she is studying radiology technology.
Amber Carmack, a home school graduate and freshman at Northwest University in Washington, where she is studying nursing.
Kaitlyn Duncan, who graduated from Crook County High School with a 3.98 GPA and is now a student at Eastern Oregon University, where she is studying exercise science/pre-med. She aspires to be a physician’s assistant.
“We had a great pool of applicants this year, but these three accomplished students really stood apart from the rest,” said Nancy Sorenson, president of the Prineville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. “Their academic achievements, contributions to the community and drive to succeed in the health care field made them very deserving of a Pioneer Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship.”
To be considered for a scholarship, applicants were required to have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, write a 500-word essay and submit two letters of recommendation along with other supporting documents. Applications were reviewed by a committee and finalists were invited for a personal interview.
