Bend Park Board member Dallas Brown resigns
At the closing of the Tuesday meeting of the Bend Park & Recreation District Board of Directors, Dallas Brown, board member since May 2011, submitted his resignation, effective immediately.
Dallas, at 28 years old, is one of the youngest elected officials to serve our community, the park district noted in a statement issued Thursday.
They said, “Dallas will be leaving the board to pursue a personal goal of traveling. He has a one-way ticket to Costa Rica, where he plans to travel throughout South America, returning at a yet-to-be-determined time.”
Brown stated, “Now is the time to pursue this kind of travel before I have other firm commitments such as a career and a family.”
Scott Asla, board chair, thanked Dallas for his service and for bringing his perspective to board discussions: “You’ve elevated our sensitivity to the interests of young adults and we appreciate your service.” he said,
Don Horton, district director, thanked Dallas and praised him for his courage to set out on what may be a life-changing adventure.
“As we grow older, the things we tend to be most sorry about are the things we didn’t do when we could,” Horton said. “We thank you for your service and wish you the best.”
The park board will discuss if and how to fill the vacancy at their February 5th meeting.
The board has the choice of appointing a person to the position or letting it remain vacant until the next election this May. An appointed person would have to run for the seat in May and if elected, would serve the remainder of Brown’s four-year seat.
