Teen hurt in Crook Co. off-road motorcycle crash

A 13-year-old Klamath Falls boy was seriously injured Sunday afternoon in the crash of his off-road motorcycle on a trail off George Millican Road, and flown first to Prineville, then to Portland for treatment, Crook County sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies, sheriff’s Search and Rescue, and Crook and Deschutes County fire medics were dispatched shortly before 1 p.m. on a report of the crash in the area of George Millican Road near Reservoir Road to Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Trail 55, said sheriff’s Sgt. James Savage.

Medics were first to reach the scene, in an OHDV trail area, arriving by four-wheeler, Savage said. LifeFlight was activated, due to the injuries and remote area.

Savage said the teen, whom authorities would not identify, was flown first to St. Charles-Bend, then to Oregon Health and Science University in Portland with serious injuries.

Savage said an investigation found the boy and his father, both from Klamath Falls, were riding their off-road bikes westbound on Trail 55 and another rider, Brandon Bradley, 34, was heading east.

As the two parties approached each other, the boy lost control of his bike and crashed, Savage said.

“The two bikes did make contact with each other,” he said, but the teen had lost control before that happened.

“It sounds like he got startled by oncoming traffic” and lost control, flipping the bike, the sergeant said, adding that the boy suffered a broken leg and possible internal injuries.

Savage said all three riders were wearing helmets and appropriate safety equipment for riding. No one else was injured, he added.
