Spiritual Diversity Conference aims to spread tolerance

KTVZ

A Spiritual Diversity Conference celebrated the differences and similarities between all faiths. Interfaith Network of Central Oregon organized Saturday’s conference at Central Oregon Community College.

Different faiths, religions and ethnicities were part of the discussion.

Organizers say they hope those participating gain knowledge to help understand the commonalities between the faiths.

And they say there are a great deal of similarities.

“Almost every single religion, almost every single faith tradition lifts up the value of other,” said Craig Perryman, president of the Interfaith Network of Central Oregon. “Don’t treat others in a way that you wouldn’t want them to be treating you. ‘Love your enemy’ is a common theme throughout all religions.”

The gathering’s topics included the role of religion in promoting tolerance and addressing the stereotypes of Islam.

A similar gathering was held in Central Oregon right after 9/11.

Interfaith Network of Central Oregon (http://www.incoregon.org/) hopes to hold a conference every two to three years.
