Volunteer opportunities offered at Bend Library

KTVZ

Those interested in learning what they can do for their community gathered Sunday at the Bend Public Library for a Volunteer Expo.

The event featured 20 local agencies that can always use the help of volunteers.

It was considered a one-stop shop, with everything from the High Desert Museum to Healthy Beginnings, Habitat for Humanity to the Central Oregon Council on Aging.

Organizers said 100 to 200 people came through the library doors to see what they can do.

Judy England, volunteer coordinator for the library, said January is good month for such an event.

“January is a great time of year — folks are coming off the holidays, they are looking at ways to give back in their community,” England said. “Last Monday was MLK Jr. Day of Service, so folks are thinking about it. It’s very in their minds, so we bring everyone together here at the library.”

England also said with budgets shrinking, people are looking at ways to contribute to the community without having to pay.
