Driver in Bend PD car rear-end crash re-arrested

A Bend woman has been arrested on DUII and other charges, accused of rear-ending a Bend police patrol car finishing a traffic stop along the Bend Parkway late Tuesday night, Oregon State Police said. The officer in the car was treated for minor injuries, troopers added.

Around 11:20 p.m., Officer Justin Lovrien, a 10-year veteran of the Bend Police Department, had just concluded a traffic stop along the northbound lanes of the parkway by the Empire Avenue exit, troopers said.

Lovrien was sitting in his patrol car when it was struck from behind by a 1999 Toyota Corolla driven by Tina Rae Taylor, 35, of Bend, OSP reported.

Lovrien was taken by ambulance to St. Charles-Bend, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, troopers said.

Taylor, who was not hurt in the crash, was arrested after the OSP’s on-scene investigation and lodged in the Deschutes County Jail on charges of DUII, third-degree assault and reckless driving.

Taylor was released from jail late Wednesday morning — but was booked back into the jail about six hours later , newly held on a probation violation for earlier charges of fourth-degree assault, recklessly endangering and methamphetamine possession.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Bilyeu said it apparently means the crash and arrest on a DUII charge led to a new bench warrant, signed Wednesday, and charged with violating terms of her probation.

Lovrien had radioed to dispatch, saying he had been rear-ended at a high rate of speed and needed assistance.

The northbound lanes of highway were closed for a time and traffic was diverted onto the Empire Avenue exit and back onto the highway.
