Hwy. 20 reopened, hours after truck jackknifes

A jackknifed semi truck blocked both lanes of Highway 20 near Suttle Lake, west of Sisters for more than two hours Friday morning.

Deschutes County dispatchers reported the incident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. near milepost 87, where the highway makes a sweeping curve by Suttle Lake.

Black Butte Ranch police, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies and Sisters-Camp Sherman fire personnel were on scene, with Oregon State Police and ODOT en route, a dispatcher said.

There were no reports of injuries, but the location allowed for no easy detour. ODOT’s TripCheck showed crews cleared the blockage and the road had reopened before 9 a.m.

Patrick O’Keefe of Bend said he was the second one on the scene, around 6 a.m., heading for a 9 a.m. meeting in Portland. He said an OSP trooper told him it would take at least an hour, if not longer to clear, so he headed home, to phone into the meeting instead from his office.

Another crash reported before 8 a.m. was blocking one lane of the highway 10 miles farther west, four miles west of the summit, ODOT’s TripCheck reported.
