KTVZ

Less than a year out of the starting gates, Oregon State University – Cascades club sports program has made it to the national playing field. In the club’s first season, two athletes qualified for the U.S.s Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association’s national championships, March 4-9 in Sun Valley, Idaho.

Freshman biology major Sierra Foster won the 5- and 10-kilometer Nordic skiing event in the collegiate division in the Sunnyside Qualifier at Mt. Bachelor in January.

Alpine skier Christian Schuster, also a freshman and biology major, qualified at regionals held in February in Red Lodge, Montana. Schuster concluded the season with the third highest point total among nearly 60 men’s alpine racers in the Northwest Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Conference and was named an All-Conference Skier.

Both students qualified for the Academic All-American Award.
