Two men arrested in burglary of La Pine home

A neighbor’s call to 911 has led to the arrest of two La Pine men on several charges in the burglary of an unoccupied La Pine home, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said Thursday.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, deputies assisted by Oregon State Police responded to a call of a suspicious circumstance at a home in the 52000 block of Drafter Road, said sheriff’s Sgt. Don Manning.

The caller told dispatchers an unknown man was seen on the property, Manning said. The person gave a description of the man, who had sped away from the area in an SUV.

An investigation determined the home, unoccupied at the time, had been burglarized, Manning said.

Evidence gathered at the scene and a subsequent investigation led to developing two suspects, identified as Jaysen Cody Brown, 19, and Joshua Maxfield, 23.

The pair were contacted in La Pine, interviewed and arrested without incident on charges that included burglary, theft, criminal trespass and criminal mischief. Maxwell also is charged with unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, Manning said.

Both suspects were lodged at the Deschutes County Jail in Bend on charges of burglary, theft, criminal trespass and criminal mischief. Maxfield also is charged with unlawful entry into a motor vehicle, Manning said.

Brown remained jailed Thursday on $5,000 bail, but a jail officer said Maxfield was given a conditional release Wednesday pending a March 27 court date.

Manning said the sheriff’s office encourages residents to report any observed suspicious or criminal activity by calling the dispatch center’s non-emergency number at (541) 693-6911, or in an emergency situation, call 911.
