Caldera seeks artist-in-residence applicants
Caldera is pleased to announce a call for applications for its 2014 Artist in Residence program.
Every winter from January through March, creative individuals and collaborative groups from all over the world are welcomed to Caldera Arts Center in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains near Sisters, Oregon for one-month long residencies.
Because we believe a range of backgrounds enhances the communal experience, residencies are open to national and international artists of any discipline, as well as creative thinkers in engineering, design and the sciences whohave emerged and established themselves beyond university training. The application deadline is June 15, 2013.

Caldera’s Artist in Residence applications for 2014 offer a new component: Artists in the Schools. One resident a month will be selected to teach in one of our five partner schools in Central Oregon.This position gives an artist 24 days at Caldera for their own work, a teaching opportunity, and a $500 stipend.
The geographic and disciplinary diversity of applications reflects Caldera’s belief that creativity is an innate quality of all individuals. It also confirms Caldera’s perspective that diversity enhances the experience of all residents at Caldera, creating a broader arena of ideas in which participants can share their work.

One of the things we are most grateful for is that we feel we have gained a life-long connection to the people, the program, and the generous spirit of Caldera.”

Successful applicants stay in Caldera’s A-frame cabins, designed to inspire and nurture. Equipped with simple kitchens, private bathrooms, wood stoves and plenty of space for creative work, the cabins lie along Link Creek. Two visual art studios and a beautifully designed performance space (including a half-sprung floor) are also available. Surrounding Caldera are miles of hiking trails as well as a cerulean blue, 350-foot-deep lake, aptly named Blue Lake, a geological caldera and the second deepest lake in Oregon.
To apply for a residency at Caldera, applicants must submit a formal application (available for download or through an online submission manager) by June 15, 2013, along with a project description, work samples and the application fee. All applications are reviewed by an admissions panel made up of professionals in the various disciplines. The awards will be announced in early September. Founded in 1996 by Dan Wieden, President of the Portland, Oregon-based international ad agency Wieden+Kennedy, Caldera is a nonprofit arts organization that, in addition to providing fully subsidized residencies to professional artists, supports underserved children through long-term mentoring and arts learning.
