Luke appointed to DOGAMI board
The Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries announces the appointment of Dennis Luke to the department’s Governing Board.
Luke represented Oregon House District 54 from 1993 until 1999, then served as a Deschutes County commissioner from 1999 to 2011. He has been active on a variety of boards and commissions in Central Oregon, including the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council and the Central Oregon Area Commission on Transportation.
“I have been interested in natural resources since before I served in the Oregon Legislature,” said Luke after attending his Senate confirmation hearing on March 6th. “While in the Legislature, I served on the Natural Resources Committee and the Governor’s Seismic Safety Policy Advisory Commission. I feel that natural resources are very important to the economic health of Oregon and look forward to assisting DOGAMI with their mission and responsibilities.”
Luke presently lives with his wife, Joanne, in Bend, where he owned and operated a building construction company from 1973 until his retirement in the mid 2000s. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University and a Master of Public Administration degree from Portland State University.
The Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries is an independent agency of the State and has a broad responsibility in developing a geologic understanding of natural hazards. We then make this information available to communities and individuals to help reduce the risks from earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, floods and volcanic eruptions. We assist in the formulation of state policy where an understanding of geologic materials, geologic resources, processes, and hazards is key to decision-making. The Department is also the lead state regulatory agency for mining, oil, gas and geothermal exploration, production and reclamation.
