Deschutes Forest recruiting volunteers

The Deschutes National Forest along with Discover Your Northwest is hosting a Volunteer Recruitment Event on Tuesday, April 9.

The focus of the event will be finding volunteers interested in becoming Interpretive Rangers for activities at Newberry National Monument from May to September or at Mt. Bachelor from July to September and seeking out candidates for Education Intern positions with the Deschutes Forest Conservation Association to develop educational programs over the summer.

Volunteer Interpretive Rangers provide both formal and informal interpretation to visitors of all ages on the natural and cultural history of the area. Volunteers will be provided a uniform and training. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one consistent day per week, on average, during the summer season. Volunteers may work at Lava Lands Visitor Center, Lava River Cave, or Mt. Bachelor

Education Interns will work with Deschutes Forest Conservation Association staff to align interpretive programs to State education curriculum standards, and develop outreach to local schools to focus and encourage field trips with the appropriate age/grades and location. The internship will be an average of 8-12 hours a week from mid-June to mid-September.

The Volunteer Recruitment event will be held on Tuesday, April 9, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Deschutes National Forest, Bend-Ft. Rock Ranger District, 63095 Deschutes Market Road, in Bend.
