Deschutes 911 levy town halls set
Deschutes County commissioners approved placement of the Deschutes 9-1-1 Local Option Levy renewal on the May 21 ballot. The current local option levy for $0.23/$1,000 (twenty-three cents per $1,000 assessed value) expires on June 30, 2013.
This new local option levy reduces the current rate and extends funding for another five years. No new taxes are proposed. Four Town Hall question-and-answer events will be held in La Pine, Redmond, Sisters and Bend in April and May.
A combination of the following Deschutes 9-1-1 officials will be in attendance at the Town Hall events: Deschutes 9-1-1 Director Rob Poirier, Deschutes County Sheriff Larry Blanton, Deschutes County Commissioners Tammy Baney, Alan Unger and Tony DeBone; and Bend Police Chief Jeff Sale.

On Monday, March 18, the Commissioners considered and approved reducing the Levy rate by three cents, to 20 cents per $1,000 assessed value.
This revision reduces the May 21 Local Option Levy tax rate with by 3 cents in what taxpayers currently pay for 9-1-1 emergency communication services ($72 per year instead of $78 per year for a property worth $200,000. The $72 figure includes the 9-1-1 permanent tax rate). The revised .20 cent per $1,000 9-1-1 Local Option Levy, that renews services for five years, will appear on the May 21 voter’s ballot.

Agency dispatchers provide certified advanced emergency medical help and are capable of delivering immediate patient care over the phone. Along with local law enforcement and fire agencies, Deschutes 9-1-1 is a vital organization that helps ensure a solid public safety foundation that can significantly contribute to economic development efforts in Deschutes County.
