Central Oregonians walk to fight multiple sclerosis

Bend’s Riverbend Park was packed with orange Saturday morning as more than 500 people and some dogs showed support and wore the color in a fund-raiser to fight multiple sclerosis.

The Oregon chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society held the walk, bringing together those with the disease and the people who supporting the cause.

Event organizers told NewsChannel 21 they hope to raise $45,000 from the event.

Bend resident Kristen Dowling came with her tutu-clad team to raise money and awareness. She said she was diagnosed with MS eight years ago.

“I never knew about the disease until I got it,” Dowling said. “And to see so many people that have it, or are affected by it, like my whole family is affected by it — so it’s really nice that everybody comes out here. It really makes me feel good.”
