Massages help support Vets for Vets clinic

For many homeless veterans, pets are their only companion but having no money to take care of their pets veterinary needs is a problem.

And the Bend Spay and Neuter Project wants to help as many as they can with a clinic.

But to do so, they needed to raise some money.

So local massage therapists donated their time Saturday to the Spay It Forward Bodywork Marathon, where 15- to 20-minute massages were given for a $15 to $20 donation.

The Bend Spay and Neuter Project wants to give back to veterans who’ve done a lot for our country.

“They don’t have, obviously, money to take care of them all the time, so we want to make sure that their pets are spayed and neutered,” said Megan Wellinghoff, the executive director of the Bend Spay and Neuter Project.

“That they are vaccinated. That they are micro-chipped, in case they were to get lost, and provide them with toys and all the things we can all provide our pets but they can’t necessarily afford,” she said. “So we want to make sure they have those things.”

The clinic itself is next Sunday . Central Oregon Veterans’ Outreach is providing transportation for the veterans.

Organizers hope to serve between 30 to 50 cats and dogs.
