Painting with stitches: ‘Quilted Oregon’
Quilts made by artists from all over Oregon are on display at the High Desert Museum.
From a distance, some of the quilts look like paintings on canvas.
But if you look closer you can see the neat stitches.
The display is called “Quilted Oregon.” Many of the artists are from Central Oregon.
The quilts are inspired by nature, with scenes of Broken Top, the Painted Hills and the Three Sisters.
There’s also a section where kids can try their hand at making a masterpiece –placing felt shapes on a board to make different designs and pictures.
“Either the artists or the subjects are meant to explore the artistic beauty of Oregon itself,” said museum spokesman Jason Hogstad. “Give us a chance to, maybe see panoramic views, such as this, through maybe a different lens.”
Moms got in free Sunday for Mother’s Day.
The quilts are on loan from the Studio Art Quilt Associates.
