Madras man shot at home; police seek info

KTVZ

A 29-year-old Madras man who was shot in his southeast Madras home late Monday night is in stable condition at an undisclosed hospital, police said Wednesday as they asked the public for help in identifying a suspect.

Officers responded just before midnight Monday to 496 SE Ninth Street on a report of a shooting, said Assistant Chief Tanner Stanfill.

Officers contacted Roberto Cortez inside the home and found he had been shot and injured, Stanfill said, declining to divulge details in a news release. However, he told NewsChannel 21 that police believe the general public is not in danger.

Cortez was taken by Jefferson County EMS to St. Charles-Madras and later taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment, the assistant chief said.

“His injuries are not life-threatening and he is in stable condition,” Stanfill said.

A suspect has not been identified, the officer said, adding that police recovered evidence at the scene and are “still actively investigating the shooting and motive behind it.”

Anyone with information was urged to contact Madras police Det. Mel Brown at (541) 475-2424.
