KTVZ

A 75-year-old Prineville man at the wheel of a 2002 Porsche 911 convertible passed his son’s car at a high rate of speed on Highway 26 between Madras and Prineville Sunday afternoon, lost control and it rolled several times, killing him, Oregon State Police reported.

Troopers identified the victim Monday morning as John Gordon Lamey.

Around 5:15 p.m., they said, Lamey was heading east on the highway around milepost 10, about 10 miles southeast of Madras in Jefferson County, following his adult son, who was in another car.

The passing and crash occurred after the cars passed the intersection of SE Ramms Road.

Lamey was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, but was pronounced dead at the scene, they said.

OSP troopers from the Bend and Prineville offices are investigating the fatal crash, with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County EMS, and ODOT assisting at the scene.

One lane was closed during the crash investigation.
