NE Bend area gets free smoke alarm checks

KTVZ

In order to help prevent fire deaths in our community, the Bend Fire Department will go door to door, testing and replacing smoke alarms and batteries if needed at no cost to homeowners.

The goal of the Code Ready Smoke Alarm Installation Program is to protect our citizens, by providing smoke alarms, at no cost, to residences that are otherwise unprotected.

The program provides an opportunity to address areas of Bend that may be at risk, due to the lack of protection provided by working smoke alarms.

The program is specifically designed with the diverse demographics in mind; e.g. specific homes needing a smoke alarm, or at-risk areas or neighborhoods. Options are available to address any situation regardless of the circumstances.

This program was made possible through assistance from the Office of the Oregon State Fire Marshal.

The objective of the campaign is to ensure:

o Every residence has a working smoke alarm in the right place,
o Citizens know how to test alarms, and
o Everyone knows what to do to when there is a fire.

The following neighborhood that was selected for this year’s campaign is the area of Franklin Avenue between NE 8th Street and NE 12th Street.

This free program is also available to anyone living in Bend. Contact us at 541 322-6309 or visit our website at bendoregon.gov/fire.
