‘The Bike Dames’ stop in Bend with green message
Two California women are traveling by bike across the country to promote and learn more about sustainable farming.
Hayden Mills and Haylee Wellsh of Palm Springs are filming interviews with farmers and companies practicing corporate responsibility by being environmentally conscious.
While in Bend, the pair toured Deschutes Brewery and Bend Distillery and learned that businesses can thrive by doing sustainable practices.
“We love meeting new people, but we also really genuinely care about organic farming and maintaining the integrity of food in the United States,” said Haylee Wellsh. “We want to bring awareness and joy to the people that are practicing awesome practices.”
The women left Bend on Tuesday, heading to Idaho. They hope to reach Virginia by the middle of August.
They will put all the videos up on their blog at www.bikedames.wordpress.com.
They also hope to start a Kickstarter campaign to turn their videos into a documentary.
