Prineville mill announces $3 million upgrade
Woodgrain Millwork, Inc. announced Friday a $3 million investment to make its Prineville manufacturing plant state-of-the-art., citing the need to “meet increased demand in the market.”
The facility manufactures wood mouldings, door components and window components.
Woodgrain Millwork, Inc. has a network of manufacturing facilities located throughout the U.S., South America and Asia.
Headquartered in Fruitland, Idaho, Woodgrain employs over 2,000 individuals, including about 250 in Prineville. It supplies mouldings, doors, and windows to multiple distributors, wholesalers, pro-dealers, doors shops, retailers and home centers nationwide.
Key to the modernization efforts at the Prineville facility is the purchase of an optimizer, software and equipment to maximize efficiencies within the plant, officials said.
The optimizer allows for more efficient use of material, reduces waste, and allows Woodgrain Millwork to respond quickly to changing market demands and opportunities through increased capacity and production.
“This type of process automation will help us drive efficiencies and optimize our productivity in Prineville,” said Kelly Dame, chief executive officer at Woodgrain Millwork, Inc. “Increased efficiency leads to increased capacity and production, which will allow us to meet increased demand in the market.”
Economic Development for Central Oregon helped coordinate efforts between Woodgrain Millwork, and officials with the city of Prineville and Crook County.
“An added benefit to this investment is that it strengthens the position of other companies in the supply chain,” added Russ Deboodt, EDCO’s Prineville/Crook County development manager.
“Woodgrain subcontracts with Contact Industries in Prineville and gets source product from the Malheur Lumber Company in John Day,” he said. “This helps retention of jobs at these plants, too.”
