Bend Habitat seeks volunteers for Honduras trip

KTVZ

Join Bend Area Habitat for Humanity on a build trip to Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras on November 30-December 8, 2013.

Bend Habitat is looking for a team of 12 motivated volunteers who want to have an amazing experience in a different culture and help low-income families in Honduras.

Volunteers will help build adobe houses and renovate existing homes for low income families. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work alongside the future homeowners and learn about the Honduras culture. Volunteers do not need construction experience.

The trip will include 5 days of building as well as opportunities for cultural experiences including; tours of Copan Ruins, cigar and loofah factories, coffee brokerage, bakery and orphanage. The cost is $1,550 per person plus airfare.

Honduras is one of the poorest and least developed countries in Latin America, with nearly two-thirds of Hondurans living in poverty. Before 1998, Honduras had shown moderate economic growth as a result of government reforms. Nevertheless, after losing $3 billion due to Hurricane Mitch, Honduras’ economy is still in the process of recovery. The agriculture sector, responsible for most exports, was the worst affected. Many Honduras families would attest that, without Habitat for Humanity, they would not have been able to build or improve their home.

Volunteers interested in participating should contact Robin Cooper Engle, rcooper@bendhabitat.org, 541.385.5387 x104.
