Overnight power outage set on Bend’s south end
About 4,900 Pacific Power customers in southern Bend will experience an outage between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 5 a.m. Thursday while overhead wires are moved to make way for a joint state and city road project involving Highway 97, Third Street and Murphy Road.
Pacific Power customers who will be affected have been individually notified by the company.
The outage will affect an area along both sides of Highway 97 from Pinebrook Boulevard in the north to Deschutes Woods in the south, about 5 miles.
In addition to residences and businesses in the area, all traffic signals will be out and should be treated as four-way stops, under Oregon law. Pacific Power is working with Bend officials to install a generator at the key intersection where Highway 97 and the Bend Parkway connect so that junction will have a signal.
“Pacific Power appreciates the understanding of our customers for the inconvenience necessary to allow the state and city project to proceed,” said Angela Price, Pacific Power regional community manager.
“The road work has been ongoing, and at this point Pacific Power needs to shut off power temporarily to safely move these overhead lines. We have timed the outage to minimize inconvenience to our customers, while still making way for the road improvements to continue.”
Customers may want to use a battery-operated clock or a cell phone alarm and charge mobile devices in advance.
Customers with questions about the planned outage can call Pacific Power toll free at 1-888-221-7070. Any outages during that time outside the affected area should continue to be reported to Pacific Power at 1-877-508-5088.
Meanwhile, Water pressure to Avion Water’s service area south of Reed Market Road will be reduced until power is restored. In the Tuscarora area, water service will be off until power is restored.
It is advisable to turn off hot water heaters during the power outage, officials said.
