Third annual Sunriver Marathon for a Cause on tap
The Susan G. Komen regional branch will hold its third annual Sunriver Marathon for a Cause this weekend.
Oregon has had one of the highest incident rates for breast cancer for many years.
CEO Thomas Bruner says the Oregon and southwest Washington branch of the foundation has invested $29 million in changing that statistic.
Right now, it funds breast cancer screening, transportation and survivor support. As well as research to figure out why people get breast cancer, how to prevent it and how to cure it.
Bruner says they’ve made tremendous strides, but their ultimate goal is a world without breast cancer, and they won’t stop until they get there.
“This week in Oregon, 70 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer, and this week in Oregon, 10 women will die of breast cancer,” said Bruner. “So we’ve made tremendous strides, but the need is still huge, and we have lots of work still to do.”
