You can drive the ‘Haiku Highway’

The Deschutes National Forest is inviting the public to participate in an annual writing event to celebrate the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway.

Two Deschutes National Forest Volunteers, Kathy Bowman and Susan Whitney, will host the FREE fourth annual Haiku Highway Writing Workshop on Thursday, September 19. The event begins at 9 a.m. at Sparks Lake Meadow, across from the Green Lakes trailhead on the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway (Century Drive). It will end at 3 p.m.

Participants will tour the area with the two volunteers who are experienced writers to find inspiration for their writing. Most of the travel will be around Sparks and Elk Lakes. Experience is not necessary. People should bring a chair, a notebook and a pen or pencil and might want to bring a sack lunch or snacks.

The 66-mile Cascade Lakes Scenic Byways was chosen by Scenic America as one of the ten most important Byways in the National Scenic Byway program.
