Bend Roots Revival plants new roots in ‘funky’ venue

It was canceled last minute last year, spurring lots of disappointment in Central Oregon’s music community. But this year, the seventh annual Bend Roots Revival is back to the music — in a much different venue: Pakit Liquidators on Bend’s Eastside.

It’s a big change from the festival’s former venue at the Century Center, but organizers and fans say they’re not only stoked to have the festival back, but also dig the new space.

“Pakit is so lively,” music enthusiast Anita Henderson said Saturday. “And it’s just like junky-funky.”

Indeed, the six-stage venue is nestled in among old tires, worn-out coaches, vintage art and lots of building supplies.

“Just amazing feedback — not just so much on the music side, but just people amazed at the venue and how unique it is, and it’s like a barn party right here in the middle of town,” said Rise Up International Director Jesse Roberts.

The festival kicked off Friday night and continues Saturday and Sunday.

The party features about 90 musical acts, mostly local to Central Oregon, music workshops, alcohol and food.

“I dig anything artistic and musical in Bend, so this is one of the best places to see a hodge-podge of all the different styles,” Henderson said.

The concert is free to attend and is located at 903 SE Armour Rd. in Bend.

Roberts said the six stages are permanent, as is the festival’s new home.
