Rescued Crooked River Ranch horses get new homes

It’s been four months since the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office seized four starving horses from a property in Crooked River Ranch — and now, a happy ending.

One of those horses and her 4-month-old colt were adopted on Sunday, going to a new home in Tumalo.

The mare had given birth to the colt just hours after her rescue.

Vets said at the time of the rescue, the horses were barely surviving, but rescuers say now all horses are thriving.

“We get to see these horses go from a bad situation to a beautiful one — these are lucky horses indeed,” said Mustangs to the Rescue spokeswoman Kate Beardsley. “They have people who care about them and have committed to them.”

Mustangs to the Rescue is an equine rescue shelter located in Terrebonne.

Another mare from the rescue and her young filly were also adopted into a new home on Sunday.

Still another pregnant mare and the stallion (now a gelding) that fathered the colt and filly are still at the rescue ranch.
