Pumpkin-carving event aids Bend relief nursery
Webfoot Painting hosted the fifth annual “Carving for Kids” pumpkin-carving event on Saturday to raise funds for MountainStar Family Relief Nursery program, which helps keep babies and toddlers safe from abuse and neglect.
Trained volunteers were on hand throughout the event to help kids carve their very own Jack-o-lanterns.
MountainStar executive director Tim Rusk talked about the importance of safety for young children.
“What we know is that period of time from 0 to 3 is phenomenally important for children and brain development,” Rusk said, “So what families need is just some support and parenting classes and that kind of thing that we can provide, to just have that child have a really strong start.”
All of the proceeds from the event at the Newport Avenue Market parking lot went to the MountainStar programs. The event also featured live music as well.
