Gym clothes donated for C. Oregon youth in need

KTVZ

The Open Gym Foundation held its second annual shoe and equipment drive Sunday. The foundation’s purpose is to help fund athletic activities for low income children and young adults throughout the Central Oregon area.

Open Gym accepted “gently used” and new athletic gear and shoes. All donations will be given to youth in need in Central Oregon.

Foundation President Richard Peterson talked with NewsChannel 21 about the importance of athletic gear for youth.

“A lot of times, you’re playing a sport where you need a specific shoe for that sport,” Peterson said. “If it costs a certain amount, then you may not be able to play that sport. Hopefully, by collecting the used shoes that are no longer needed, the child can get those specific shoes needed and play the sport.”

Along with the donations, there was food, games and prizes. For information on how you can donate, visit http://www.opengymbend.org/ .
