Missing S. Oregon motorcyclist’s body found in Lane Co.
Acting on a citizen’s tip, a missing Medford-area motorcyclist’s body was found Sunday morning at the site of a crash off a remote Forest Service road in Lane County, authorities said.
The body of James Lutter, 60, was found pinned beneath his motorcycle, about 15 feet off Big River Road and down a 12-foot embankment, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported.
“It was difficult to see the motorcycle from the roadway,” the sheriff’s office update stated. They added that Lutter was wearing a personal locator beacon, but the device had not been activated.
The sheriff’s office thanked the media for wide dissemination of Saturday night’s missing-person announcement, and the many volunteers from the Douglas and Lane county search and rescue units who assisted during the search.
Three Oregon counties became involved in the search for Lutter, who left the Portland area last Tuesday on a planned trip through Detroit to John Day, then back home to Phoenix, near Medford, on unspecified back roads, but didn’t return Thursday as planned.
