Six Deschutes arrests in national family-violence sweep
Five Deschutes County agencies attempted to serve 126 warrants and made six arrests last week as part of the 11 th annual National Family Violence Apprehension Detail, sheriff’s officers said Monday.
The sheriff’s office partnered last Wednesday with the county’s Adult Parole and Probation and police departments from Bend, Redmond, Sunriver and Black Butte Ranch to join in the detail, which focuses on domestic violence warrants across the nation, said sheriff’s Capt. Scott Beard.
Nearly 250 agencies in 23 states took part in the event, coordinated by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Beard said. Nearly 700 law enforcement members took part, more than 3,300 warrants were attempted and 780 arrests were made, he added.
In Deschutes County, the four-hour county-wide detail included the incorporated cities and involved a total of 20 personnel who went out in teams to execute the warrants.
Beard said the six arrests were “about average” for the yearly effort – “we don’t get many, because we do them all the time,” Beard explained.
The district attorney’s office noted that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, with the purple ribbon as a show of support for the fight to end domestic violence.
