The parents of one witnesses at the scene told KGW their son saw the suspect on the porch of the burning home. When he told the man his home was on fire, the suspect responded that he set the fire, according to Mark and Molly Hansen.

The suspect then reportedly shot the arriving officer in the middle of the street, and witnesses took off into their homes.

Dozens of police moved in on the home and the threat to the public ended after the suspect was killed before 3 p.m., Wurpes said.
