Sunriver Resort partnered with several community organizations to renovate the Finley Butte Athletic Field complex for the La Pine Parks and Recreation District.
Sunriver Resort Managing Director Tom O’Shea presented Bob Schulz and Robert Ray of LRPD with a check for $5,000 to fund a portion of installation of a new irrigation system valued at $25,000.
“La Pine Parks and Recreation District is very pleased to have a great partner such as Sunriver Resort, and all the others in this fantastic coalition. As we move forward, we will be creating a destination sports complex, which will accommodate youth athletes from our region and beyond” said LRPD exec director Bob Schulz.
Multiple community partners collaborated with Sunriver Resort on the La Pine’s Finely Butte Field project – a restoration project of a three-field youth baseball and softball facility in the heart of La Pine – including Ewing Irrigation, Hunter Industries, Vic Russell Construction, La Pine Little League, and the city of La Pine.
The goal of the project is to renovate the outdoor youth facility to attract major youth baseball and softball tournaments to the area; positively impacting not only the youth in the community, but also the Newberry-area economy during spring and summer months.
This winter, committee members will raise the funds to complete the renovation project, which will ultimately include three fields, a renovated clubhouse, bleachers, picnic area and other amenities.
