Prineville burglary suspect Tasered, arrested

A man who appeared to be on drugs entered a southeast Prineville home Monday night, then fled when confronted by a resident, police said. He soon was found in another nearby home, washing himself in the bathroom, but struggled with officers and assaulted one during his arrest, prompting use of a Taser, they said.

Prineville police, assisted by Crook County sheriff’s deputies, were summoned to a home in the 700 block of SE Garner Street around 8 p.m. on a report of a man who entered an occupied home, said sheriff’s Capt. Michael Boyd.

Responding officers quickly learned the man had fled the home after being confronted by a man living there, Boyd said.

Officers began checking the area and found Trent Anthony Lucas, 26, of Prineville, in an unoccupied home two houses away.

Boyd said the man did not obey officers’ orders to leave the home. The homeowner told police he did not know Lucas and was not supposed to be in the house.

Officers entered the home and found Lucas had removed most of his clothes and was washing himself in the bathroom.

Lucas began struggling with officers trying to take him into custody, Boyd said. During the struggle, Lucas allegedly assaulted an officer and a Taser was used to ultimately subdue him.

Lucas appeared to be under the influence of drugs and possessed methamphetamine when he was arrested, Boyd said.

Lucas was booked into the Crook County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree criminal trespass, second-degree criminal mischief, two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, assault on a peace officer, meth possession, second-degree burglary and resisting arrest. He remained held Tuesday on $57,000 bail.

Along with those charges, Boyd said, Lucas was in possession of stolen checks at the time of his arrest. Several more charges of forgery, ID theft and related crimes are pending as the case is investigated.
