Redmond shelter to get rescued Calif. dogs
On Friday, Redmond’s BrightSide Animal Center will receive eight dogs as part of the Wings of Rescue airlift that is bringing 500 dogs facing euthanasia in California to shelters and rescue organizations in Oregon and other northwestern states.
“The plane will be touching down in Redmond sometime tomorrow; we’re awaiting confirmation of the time of touchdown,” BrightSide Executive Director Chris Bauersfeld said Thursday.
“They will all be small dogs,” she added. “We have already been alerted to the possibility that they will be unkempt, matted, in need of veterinary care and possibly some work with Judy, our dog trainer. They will all be going through the regular process of adoption: behavior assessment, veterinary assessment, pictures (once groomed), and then they’ll be posted on our website when available for adoption.”
Bauersfeld expects these new arrivals to be ready for adoption in about a week, barring possible medical issues that may need treatment first.
Wings of Rescue is an organization of private pilots who have volunteered annually since 2010. This year more than 20 pilots are participating to fly dogs from California to Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana, according to Yehuda Netanel, co-founder of the organization.
BrightSide Animal Center is a 501c3 nonprofit shelter dedicated to the high-save mission of giving every animal a chance to find a forever home. BrightSide also encourages responsible pet ownership through its spay and neuter program and low-cost dog-training classes.
